MY MORNING ROUTINE
SKINNEY Medspa Founders + Sisters Marisa and Adriana Martino
What do you do first upon waking?
MM: The first thing I do each morning is take my R3Health vitamin pack formulated for me, with a big glass of electrolyte water as I am waiting for my coffee.
AM: Upon waking I immediately start brewing my morning coffee in one of those old-school Italian coffee tins on the stove. While I wait, I drink a tall glass of water with my morning vitamin packs, which include omega 3’s, vitamins D, C, and B methylfolate, NAD + NAC, and a few other essentials for optimal health.
What is your own morning skincare routine?
MM: My skin is clean in the morning, so I don’t do anything until after the gym. Typically, after the gym, your pores are open and skin is likely to have access to bacteria. If I can’t shower right away, I typically use my favorite skincare cosmetic pads by Clinique, Take the Day Off. After my skin is clear of sweat and debris, to clear it of extra bacteria I love my SKINNEY Chemical Peel pads. They have glycolic and salicylic acids, and also vitamins that will slough away dead skin cells, exfoliate, and clear skin of unwanted bacteria. After my skin is clean, I always use SKINNEY Beauty Oil, which is enriched with Moringa, an anti-inflammatory that helps with redness, and Vitamin C that helps to balance and hydrate skin.
AM: I typically will add under eye cream and sweep on a tinted SPF like Alastin, Elta MD, or, most recently, Duette.
What do you eat and drink in the morning?
MM: Coffee with Laird Adaptogen coffee creamer and a few bites of whatever I have in the kitchen, typically berries and cottage cheese, or healthy granola.
AM: Usually after my coffee with almond milk and honey I intermittent fast until around noon.
Do you have a morning exercise routine/if so what is it?
MM: Lately I’ve been mixing Core Power Yoga Sculpt (hot room) with Pilates.
AM: I wish I had a routine but to be honest I just do as I feel that day. I try and work out at least 3-4 times a week, and I listen to my body. I love yoga, HIIT classes, and old-school soul cycle with Laurie Cole, which is conveniently in my apartment building in Tribeca.
What are your key skin tips and tricks for travelling?
MM: I can’t travel without SKINNEY’s Beauty Oil. I put it anywhere I need. I also love ISDIN color #2 facial SPF and Duette’s skin-adapting SPF for travel.
AM: I can’t travel without my P50 lotion by Biologique Recherche. It’s really skin balancing and exfoliates so gently. Also, after a long flight I use SKINNEY’s microdermabrasion in a bottle. It’s heat-activated with bamboo beads to really slough off the dead skin cells post-plane.
What are your 3 hero products?
MM: Biologique Recherche P50 lotion, SKINNEY’s beauty oil, and Alastin’s eye cream.
AM: Our SKINNEY beauty oil literally all over, including your hair for deep nourishment. La Mer’s The Concentrate (IYKYK!), and of course Biologique Recherche P50 lotion.
What’s your favorite treatment – both at home or with you – before a big event or night out?
MM: AQUAGOLD is my obsession. It has tiny gold channels that penetrate the sub-dermis with peptides, Botox, and vitamins. Try it 2-3 days pre-event so the Botox can kick in.
AM: Most recently I’ve been using Alma Lasers’ new at-home LED skin device to stimulate cell turnover. It’s super easy and I do it while watching shows before bed. At SKINNEY I am a fan of Fraxel + exosomes for the ultimate anti-aging/reversal of fine lines and sunspots; it’s truly a magical eraser. I do it 5-7 days prior to an event.
What are your favorite facial and body treatments at SKINNEY Medspa?
MM: Facial: Softwave for skin texture, tone, and tightening. Body: Coolsculpting — it works every time for small pockets of unwanted fat.
AM: For facial treatments I love Hydrafacial’s for a glow-up, and EmSculpt or TruFlex to tighten and lift my booty!
Besides skincare products and treatments, what else are the best things we can do for our skin?
MM: Wear SPF! And drink/eat in moderation. Our bodies have slight allergies to foods so if we don’t overeat, our bodies will function better.
AM: Staying hydrated, getting 8 hours of sleep, and staying out of the sun is the most ideal way to keep your skin youthful. Aside from that, we have SKINNEY treatments!
Where is your favourite place in the world to wake up?
MM: My bed with someone I love.
AM: Italy, more specifically Capri, will always be my Number One. St Barths is a close second. When not traveling, waking up in the Hamptons at my house is always so nice, as I am so grateful to have it. It’s such a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city!
