Samuel de Gunzburg was born in Paris, France in 1995, and grew up in both Paris and London. In 2018 he obtained his Bachelor degree from City & Guilds of London Art School in Fine Art. His solo exhibitions include First Dream, London (2013), A Digital Fauve, London (2014) and Juice, London (2017). He was also included in various group shows such as 'Paper Cuts' at Saatchi Gallery, London (2018). Gunzburg's first encounters with painting were mostly influenced by the Parisian and London graffiti scene, where he grew-up as a kid and teenager. As a consequence his first experiences on canvas were an extension of his exterior practice, constantly using spray paint and markers as default materials.
In recent years, Samuel de Gunzburg has developed a technique that he describes as a ‘hybrid’, balanced between the organic and the digital, the intuitive and considered. The starting point often takes place with an unplanned drawing or painting, which is then digitalised in order to fully revisit and reprocess the original image into a final draft. Once the painting has taken its appropriate digital form, it is then reintroduced onto canvas to create the final work.
