INTERVIEW
What is your greatest extravagance?
NK: Our silk jersey pieces. They have the ease and casual feel of cotton jersey, but the luxe slip and touch of silk. I’ll never go back.
When and where were you happiest?
NK: I’m a skier, so I’m always happiest in the mountains. I love a fresh blanket of new snow and a sunny day. Otherwise, when I’m working. I love having a sense of purpose and a goal I’m working towards.
What is your most treasured possession?
NK: My books. I’m always curious and trying to learn more, and books are such a good way to do that. I was really inspired by an exhibition catalogue, Margiela: The Hermès Years before I even started FFORME. More recently, I loved Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act.
Who is your fiction hero?
NK: I tend to be more inspired by the people around me than fictional characters. My biggest inspiration is probably my parents, who have taught me so many things, but especially the idea that for many of the biggest challenges, it’s a matter of reframing perspectives and thinking in new, unusual ways.
What is your motto?
NK: It’s not a motto, but I believe in nurturing big ideas. The best ideas are the ones that don’t leave you alone, that you can’t forget about and that end up leading you to new and exciting places. Always follow your curiosity.
What was your inspiration for starting FFORME?
NK: I was inspired by what I couldn’t get in my wardrobe. It’s simple, but I couldn’t find the things that made me feel sophisticated, but also a bit edgy and unconventional.
