What is your greatest extravagance?
NB: To indulge in asking questions of people that know a lot more than me. When you find someone of great depth, knowledge and creativity, AND they’re patient - indulge away.
When and where were you happiest?
NB: Few feelings in the world compare to walking off stage after playing a concert, when we have all poured our hearts out and communicated to both the audience and to each other with sincerity and honesty.
What is your most treasured possession?
NB: I don’t own my violin, but it is in my hands for hours every day and I am its keeper. The relationship between person and instrument is like between two humans. It’s complex and intimate and forever evolving.
Who is your fiction hero?
NB: Mary Poppins. Humble, straight, positive, patient and hard working.
What is your motto?
NB: Strive for improvement. Do some proper work every day. Embrace your strengths and don’t take them for granted. Listen carefully, and as your abilities grow, so must your humility.
