MY MORNING ROUTINE

My mornings are very different now that the youngest of my three boys has left for university. I have been doing school runs for over 20 years, so it is an absolute luxury to be able to have my own routine and ease into the day.

6:00 am: I wake naturally around 5:45-6am as I always leave our blinds slightly open (much to my partner’s annoyance) to allow the morning light in. I try to work with nature’s rhythms as much as possible as it feels gentler.

6:15 am: I make a cup of hot water, lemon, honey, and ginger and go into my office to do a couple of hours of email catch up. I have always been a morning person; I like the peace and quiet before the world starts buzzing. My dog Bear has a second home beneath my desk, so he goes back to bed and happily snores away while I work.

8:00 am: I usually do 20-30 minutes of gentle exercise—stretching, yoga, or chi-gong. I love Marisa at yoqi; during lockdowns it really helped me to stay grounded and positive.

8:30 am: I always take apple cider vinegar then have a light breakfast, like a kefir smoothie or yoghurt with fruit, nuts, and seeds. Sometimes I wait until lunch to give my digestive system a rest.

9:00 am: Get ready for the day. If I shower, I try and finish with a cold shower, Wim Hof style; it is really invigorating but sometimes, on a cold morning, I take a bath, as there is nothing nicer than soaking tired muscles in warm, fragrant water. I love Weleda Arnica Bath Milk; I studied Homeopathy before my CranioSacral training, so I still seek out those remedies.

Of course my skincare consists of pretty much the entire AMLY range. Lisa (AMLY Co-Founder) and I only create the products we want to use ourselves, so if something is missing on our shelves, we get back in the lab with our alchemist!

I cleanse at night, so in the morning I soak a muslin in cool water and sweep it over my face, then spritz with Radiance Boost Face Mist to wake up my skin and senses. I then combine a few drops of Meadow Dew Facial Essence with Day Light Oil, breathe in the scent, and press gently into my skin. I tap a little Eye Care around my eyes then, using a Rose Quartz Gua Sha, do a very quick massage to improve circulation and lymph drainage.

A huge part of our AMLY philosophy is the importance of ritual. I am a firm believer that taking time to pay attention to self through mindful touch and body awareness can reap multiple benefits for our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

I don’t wear a lot of makeup unless I am in a meeting or going somewhere. I like Kosas tinted face oil and Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks blush stick.

9:30 am: I live in Henley-on-Thames so I wear a very relaxed country wardrobe most of the time. Summer it’s light cotton skirts and dresses, and in winter, it’s jeans and big jumpers. Hunter wellies are a must year-round.

10:00 am: By now Bear is ramping up the puppy eyes and literally begging for his walk. I feel incredibly lucky to have so many beautiful walks on my doorstep. I either head down to the river or along the road to Nettlebed Creamery where I can have my morning coffee made with their delicious organic milk followed by a walk through the surrounding fields, bliss.

11:30 am: Back to my desk for the day’s meetings. I keep our Digital Detox by my computer, ready to mist regularly to help keep me focused and keep my skin hydrated and protected from digital pollution.
